Lufthansa Airlines launches KL-Frankfurt route, flights to begin Oct 25

KUALA LUMPUR: Lufthansa Airlines has launched its new non-stop flights between Kuala Lumpur (KL) and Frankfurt today, in a move to strengthen its network in Southeast Asia and focusing on growth in the dynamic region.

According to Lufthansa Group, the German carrier will commence the service on Oct 25, 2026, operating five times a week on a daily basis, except on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

"Flights can be booked immediately,” it said in a statement today.

The group said the flight will be operated by the new Boeing 787, equipped with 287 seats in three classes and the new Allegris cabin that offers more legroom and a fold-out leg rest.

"Flight LH 704 departs at 9.30 pm in Frankfurt and arrives in Kuala Lumpur at 4.40 pm local time the following day. The return flight LH 705 takes off at 11.55 pm in Kuala Lumpur and lands at 6.00 am the following day in the Rhine-Main metropolis,” it said.

Lufthansa Airlines will be the only airline with non-stop flights to Malaysia from the Lufthansa Group home markets, namely Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, and Italy.

"This makes Kuala Lumpur the third Lufthansa Group destination in Southeast Asia, alongside Bangkok, Singapore and Phuket,” the group said.

The Lufthansa Group is a European aviation group with worldwide operations. Its business segments consist of passenger airlines, logistics, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) as well as additional businesses.

The passenger airlines business segment includes the network airlines Lufthansa Airlines, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and ITA Airways.

Lufthansa Airlines chief executive officer Jens Ritter said the carrier creates ideal conditions to participate in the growth in Southeast Asia with the new non-stop connection to Kuala Lumpur and the deployment of the state-of-the-art Dreamliner (Boeing 787).

Besides that, the group noted that Malaysia is also economically strong and growing rapidly.

"Germany is Malaysia's most important trading partner in the European Union and over 700 German companies are based in Malaysia,” it said.

Hence, Lufthansa pointed out that the group sees significant growth potential in the region and is specifically focusing on the development of this destination. - Bernama
