SC welcomes two new board members

KUALA LUMPUR: The Securities Commission appointed Kamal Azira Hassan and Adnan Zaylani Mohamad Zahid as its board members for a two-year term, starting Feb 15, 2026.

Kamal Azira brings over 25 years of experience in public, constitutional and administrative law, as well as government litigation, international legal affairs, financial governance and regulatory advisory.

He has served in key roles across the Attorney General's Chambers, Prime Minister’s Department, State Legal Advisor Office, statutory bodies and federal ministries, leading litigation and specialised legal units.

He holds a Master of Laws in Administration of Islamic Law and a Bachelor of Laws from the International Islamic University Malaysia.

Adnan Zaylani, currently Deputy Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia overseeing Financial Markets and Development, brings over 30 years of experience in managing international reserves, other public sector funds and formulating financial sector development policies and strategies. 

He is a member of the Monetary Policy and the Financial Stability Committees of Bank Negara Malaysia.

He has contributed to Islamic finance development initiatives and the Financial Sector Blueprint 2022-2026, and has been involved in programmes supporting SME financing, financial inclusion and financial literacy.

He holds a Master of Public Policy from the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford, a Master of Science in Global Market Economics and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science. 

He is a Chartered Professional in Islamic Finance and also serves as an Adjunct Professor at Universiti Malaysia Terengganu.

Both Kamal Azira and Adnan Zaylani will serve on the SC Board until Feb 14, 2028. Appointed by the Minister of Finance, the SC Board is responsible for monitoring the overall governance of the SC with oversight of its regulatory and developmental mandates.
