YTL inks RM200mil naming rights deal with Aviva for Bristol arena

PETALING JAYA: YTL Developments (UK), a unit of YTL Corp Bhd, has inked a RM200mil deal for naming rights of its 20,000 capacity new arena in Bristol with UK insurer Aviva.

In a release, YTL Group noted YTL Live, the operating company for the new live entertainment complex, stated the Aviva Arena is part of a redevelopment called Brabazon new town that will include 6,500 new homes, community facilities, student accommodation, a new railway station, office developments, hotels and a Waitrose shopping centre.

The entire development is on the disused Filton airfield in Bristol. The Aviva Arena will be the largest live entertainment venue in the West of England when ready by late 2028.

An estimated 1.4 million people are expected to attend live music, sports and entertainment at Aviva Arena each year.

Work has commenced to transform the iconic Brabazon Hangars, birthplace of all the UK’s Concorde supersonic jets, into a live entertainment destination.

The entire complex, called YTL Live, will house Aviva Arena in the central and largest of the three Brabazon Hangars, as well as a conference and exhibition space, and is expected to contribute an estimated £1bil to the wider Bristol economy over the first decade of operation.

"Our purchase of the disused Filton airfield in 2015 was a major move into something we have done many times in Asia – regenerating disused sites with care and imagination to create a new environment and a prosperous community" stated Tan Sri Francis Yeoh, executive chairman of YTL Group.  The YTL group intends to invest some £4bil in the UK over five years.
