Pengerang Biorefinery breaks ground

KUALA LUMPUR: Pengerang Biorefinery Sdn Bhd, a joint venture between Petroliam Nasional Bhd (PETRONAS), Enilive SpA and Euglena Co Ltd, marked a key milestone with the groundbreaking of its new biorefiPEWnery in Pengerang, Johor, to advance cleaner energy solutions.

In a joint statement, PETRONAS, Enilive and Euglena said that the biorefinery will have a processing capacity of up to 650,000 tonnes of renewable feedstock annually and is projected to produce sustainable aviation fuel, hydrogenated vegetable oil, and bio-naphtha to meet the growing demand for cleaner energy solutions.

They said feedstocks for the biorefinery will include waste such as used vegetable oils and animal fats, as well as residues from the processing of vegetable oils.

“The new facility is targeted to commence operations by the second half of 2028 in line with the schedule. Pengerang Biorefinery is a demonstration of a shared commitment to meet the growing needs for more competitive and accessible cleaner energy solutions,” they said. — Bernama
