NuEnergy wins RM270mil solar project in Johor

PETALING JAYA: NuEnergy Holdings Bhd has accepted letters of award worth RM270mil from Binastra Corp Bhd’s unit Binastra Green Energy Sdn Bhd to undertake engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) works for a solar energy project in Pasir Gudang, Johor.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, NuEnergy noted the EPCC works include procurement, design, construction, testing and commissioning of a 65 megawatt-peak (MWp) solar photovoltaic (PV) energy and 200 megawatt-hours (MWh) battery energy storage system (BESS).

The award comprises two contracts — one for the engineering, construction and commissioning of the 65MWp solar photovoltaic and 200MWh BESS in Pasir Gudang, Johor, and another for the sale and purchase of materials for the project.

NuEnergy said the total contract value is RM270mil, split into RM54mil for construction services and RM216mil for procurement.

The project is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2026.

The project is believed to be related to Binastra Green Energy’s earlier RM305mil contract from Bahru Stainless Sdn Bhd announced on Oct 7, which covers the design and build of infrastructure, civil and structural works for a 65MWp solar PV and 200MWh BESS at the same Pasir Gudang site.

Once operational, the project is expected to generate about 80 million kilowatt-hours of solar power annually, covering 80% of Bahru Stainless’ energy requirements.

According to Binastra, the project could save up to RM45.6mil a year in energy costs and reduce carbon emissions by 61,920 tonnes.
