IJM, Sunway deny merger speculation

PETALING JAYA: IJM Corp Bhd denied being approached for a potential merger with Sunway Bhd, in response to a local media report suggesting both companies have been in confidential discussions for more than a year.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, IJM said its board “is not aware of any such proposal and has not been approached regarding a potential merger”.

“IJM is obliged to adhere to Bursa Malaysia’s disclosure requirements and will make the necessary announcements should there be any material developments,” it added.

Similarly, Sunway, in a separate filing, clarified that there have been no engagements or negotiations with IJM Corp.

“If and when definitive decisions are taken with respect to any corporate actions, the relevant announcements will be made in accordance with the Main Market Listing Requirements of Bursa Malaysia Securities Bhd,” Sunway said.

Recently, a local media report claimed that both companies had explored a multi-billion-ringgit share-swap merger that could create one of Malaysia’s largest construction and infrastructure groups.
