Batik Air to expand presence at Subang Airport

KUALA LUMPUR: Batik Air will expand its presence at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, better known as Subang Airport, by increasing the frequency of its flights and introducing more routes in the coming months.

In a statement, the carrier said it supports the government's efforts to transform the airport into a premier regional hub.

"By enhancing connectivity and accessibility, the airline aims to support the airport’s growth as a dynamic gateway for business and leisure travellers," it said.

Batik Air CEO Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy said it was fully committed to Subang Airport's transformation as it holds immense potential as a modern city airport.

"Our expanded presence will offer travellers greater choice and convenience while reinforcing Malaysia’s position as a key aviation hub in the region," he added.

Chandran also said he was seeking prompt cooperation from airline regulators, including the Ministry of Transport, the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia, the Malaysian Aviation Commission and Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd to consider expediting the allocation

of additional flight slots at Subang Airport.

Batik Air's renewed commitment to Subang Airport follows an announcement by AirAsia earlier this month that it would relocate its domestic services from Subang Airport to Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 2 (KLIA2) on April 7 of this year.

AirAsia noted that with passenger volumes between Kuala Lumpur and key destinations such as Kota Kinabalu and Kuching increasing significantly at 16% year-on-year, consolidating operations at KLIA2 will allow the airline to better accommodate rising traffic.

"While Subang Airport has been convenient, especially for city-bound travellers, its redevelopment to support future growth will take time.

"In the meantime, the airline will consolidate its operations at KLIA T2 to improve efficiency and elevate the overall guest experience," it said.
