Encorp dismisses CEO with immediate effect

PETALING JAYA: Encorp Bhd has dismissed its group chief executive officer Hazurin Harun, 54, with immediate effect following internal investigations by the board of directors.

The dismissal comes following charges made by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

Hazurin, who was suspended back in August, was charged last month in the Sessions Court with two counts of criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving RM1.05mil last year.

For the first charge, Hazurin was accused of committing CBT by authorising a payment of RM350,000 via an Encorp cheque to LMC Mining Sdn Bhd.

This payment was for the delivery of 20,000 tonnes of kaolin mineral from a mining site in Perak, rather than for the silica quartz as intended on June 21, 2023.

The second charge alleged that he transferred RM700,000 online to the same company’s bank account.

This transfer covered a shipment from Lumut Port, Perak, to Nantong, China, and the rental of a vessel to transport silica sand from the same mining site, contrary to the intended silica quartz delivery.

Both offenses were said to have occurred at a bank branch in Dataran Sunway, Petaling Jaya.

The charges were framed under Section 409 of the Penal Code, which carries a prison sentence of at least two years, caning, and a fine upon conviction.
