The three-party commitment aims to showcase 5G-A capabilities for consumers and enterprises using cutting-edge technology and AI

CELCOMDIGI Berhad (CelcomDigi), U Mobile Sdn Bhd (U Mobile) and ZTE Corporation (ZTE) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Feb 26.

The collaboration aims to showcase the capabilities of 5G-Advanced (5G-A) technology, artificial intelligence (AI) and digital solutions for real-time live broadcasting.

This initiative encompasses 5G field trials of live use case applications in Sarawak using 5G-A technology to deliver enhanced customer experience with seamless connectivity via 5G carrier aggregation solutions such as Automatic Antenna Pattern Control (AAPC) and Active Antenna Unit (AAU) hibernation.

Other 5G technologies include mmWave, Dynamic Frame Scheduling (DIS Solution) and Fusion Assisting Super TDD (FAST Solution) for faster 5G speeds, and a native-AI intelligent radio access network (RAN) for improved network and streaming management.

The MOU was signed by CelcomDigi chief executive officer Datuk Idham Nawawi, U Mobile chief executive officer Wong Heang Tuck and ZTE Malaysia managing director Steven Ge at the Malaysian Pavilion during the Mobile World Congress 2024 in Barcelona, Spain.

The signing was witnessed by Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

With a shared vision of leveraging cutting-edge technology to propel 5G-A adoption, the collaboration between ZTE, CelcomDigi and U Mobile represents the commitment to shape Malaysia's digital future through innovation and connectivity.

Commenting on the strategic partnership, Datuk Idham said, “Our strategic partnership with U Mobile and ZTE enables us to develop and deploy the latest 5G technologies, and test new use cases across mass consumers and enterprises for enhanced digital experiences.

“As we aspire to build the nation’s digital ecosystem, this partnership will also unlock more value for 5G connectivity and solutions, potentially delivering significant benefits for the country.”

Wong said, “U Mobile is delighted to collaborate with our partners CelcomDigi and ZTE to further accelerate the adoption of 5G-Advanced technology.

“Our cooperation under this MOU will leverage respective strengths and expertise to highlight the benefits of 5G-A to mass consumers and enterprises, in line with our vision to be Malaysia’s favourite digital services provider.”

Ge said, "ZTE is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of technological innovation. Our partnership with CelcomDigi and U Mobile redefines the standards of live application use cases through the deployment of 5G-Advanced technology and AI-driven features."
