Maybank Islamic allocates almost RM36mil for CSR this year

JAKARTA: Maybank Group’s Islamic banking arm, Maybank Islamic, has allocated almost RM36mil for corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives this year, with some portions of the allocation to be channelled towards communities in Indonesia through various social-impact programmes.

Maybank Islamic deputy chief executive officer Nor Shahrizan Sulaiman said the bank gave out RM1.7mil to a fund through its flagship Regional Ramadan Relief Programme, aimed at providing essential food items to over 6,000 underprivileged families in 11 countries.

The distribution of the food boxes commenced in Jakarta yesterday in a ceremony where the food boxes were presented by Nor Shahrizan and Maybank Indonesia president director Taswin Zakaria to 100 beneficiaries, out of 590 in Indonesia, witnessed by Maybank Islamic chairman Datuk Zulkiflee Abbas Abdul Hamid.

Since 2017, when the bank expanded the programme to include Indonesia, nearly 13,000 families in the country have received its contribution valued at over RM2.4mil.
