HSR: To build or not to build?


THE idea to build a bullet train line connecting Kuala Lumpur and Singapore has been around since the late 1990s, but it has been shelved every single time due to high costs.

When YTL Group unsuccessfully tried to revive the high-speed rail (HSR) project in 2006, the cost was estimated at RM8bil for 325km or about RM24mil per km.
