Bursa Malaysia closes higher at midday on better sentiment

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia closed higher at midday, tracking global optimism, after US stocks ended firmer yesterday.

Hong Leong Invetment Bank said in a note that Asian markets rallied amid a dovish Fed and sinking yields, overshadowing lingering concerns over China’s economic health as investors await China’s industrial production, retail sales and unemployment figures today.

"The Dow soared 158 points to close at an all-time high of 37,248 while the US 10-year bond yield slid 10 basis poins to 3.92 per cent, taking the cues from the Fed’s dovish tilt and optimism on a soft economic landing, as the stronger-than-expected US retail sales and a decline in weekly jobless claims failed to shift investors' expectations significantly,” it said.
