Chance to learn from SOBA winners

PICKING up from the last session that was held in June, The Star Outstanding Business Awards (SOBA) Connect continues to bring outstanding SOBA winners to the forefront.

It will be a chance for SOBA Biz Club members and other interested participants to experience the success journeys and experiences right from the lips of these winners on Aug 24 at Menara Star.

This time, the event will host 2021’s Malaysian Business of the Year (MBotY) winner for above RM25mil, Alpro Foundation chief executive officer Ostwin Paw, as well as SOBA 2011 Entrepreneur of the Year (EotY) silver award winner myNews Holdings Bhd founder and group chief executive officer Dang Tai Luk to share their secrets of success.

Paw spearheads the Alpro Foundation’s transformative endeavours in sustainability and impact while focusing on fostering positive change within the local community and advocates cultivating individuals to forge a sustainable business that lasts.

As a neuro-linguistics programming practitioner and a hypnotherapist, Paw believes in the power of words to move people to action.

Dang left his job in the field of information technology to found a news stand together with his family at 1 Utama Shopping Complex back in 1996, which grew into the popular Malaysian homegrown convenience chain store myNEWS.

Under his leadership as a group CEO, the myNEWS Group today operates over 600 retail stores under the myNEWS, Supervalue, WH Smith (the UK) and CU (South Korea) brands.

The group also jointly operates two large-scale food processing plants with Japanese partners to produce bakery products and ready-to-eat meals for its retail chains.

The event itself will be moderated by The Malaysia Entrepreneurs’ Development Association (PUMM) national vice-president Datuk Teh Tai Yong.

As a prominent figure in PUMM – which is one of SOBA’s strategic partners – Teh has contributed to the association’s success as a leading entrepreneurial organisation and was also one of SOBA 2022 judges.

He plays a significant role in empowering entrepreneurs and fostering business growth in Malaysia, thanks to his expertise and leadership.

The topic that will be discussed is specifically on Navigating the Entrepreneurial Landscape: Insights from the Pioneers.
