MPOC appoints Bek-Nielsen as new chairman

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) has appointed United Plantations Bhd’s vice-chairman and chief executive director, Datuk Carl Bek-Nielsen as its new chairman, effective May 1, 2023.

MPOC said Bek-Nielsen is well versed on the challenges and issues that the industry faces as he has extensive experience in the Malaysian palm oil industry and had previously served on the MPOC board.

"He will continue to focus on the sustainability of and social improvements in the Malaysian palm oil sector, ensuring that the trade doors would remain open for the world’s largest agri-commodity as the industry moves towards its goal of producing sustainable palm oil,” said MPOC.

Bek-Nielsen has been serving as a council member of the Malaysian Palm Oil Association (MPOA) since 2005 and was a council member of the MPOC from 2005 to 2020.

He was also appointed as co-chairman of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) Board of Governors in 2014, a post he held until early this year.

"He has also been appointed as the Honorary Consul General of Denmark for Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur, as well as the Honorary Consul of Denmark to Perak, Johor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Selangor and Terengganu,” said MPOC. - Bernama
