PETALING JAYA: Solarvest Holdings Bhd, via its consortium in the Philippines, has been appointed to install a small grid-connected solar power plant in Mindanao, as part of the government’s efforts to electrify remote communities.
Solarvest and its consortium partner, Edward Marcs Phiippines Inc, will provide engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning services for a one-megawatt peak ground-mounted solar development in General Santos, Mindanao Island under the Rural Network Solar programme.
The Philippine government-owned National Power Corp (NPC), through South Cotabato II Electric Cooperative Inc (Socoteco II) held a groundbreaking ceremony for the project yesterday.
Socoteco II is a non-profit electric cooperative of NPC to construct electricity distribution systems in rural areas.
The project is administered by the World Bank and funded by the European Union under the Access to Sustainable Energy in the Philippines Programme that aims to provide affordable, clean, and disaster-resilient energy systems to the isolated communities in the Philippines.
With that, small grid-connected solar photovoltaic power plants will be installed at the distribution substations within the geographic region of the electric cooperative.
In a statement, Solarvest executive director and group chief executive officer Davis Chong said the consortium looks forward to more collaborations with the NPC, moving forward.
