The big wage conundrum


THERE have been avid discussions on the ground, including on social media, that Malaysians are among the lowest paid employees in South-East Asia, or even Asia as a whole.

Empirical evidence of this can perhaps be seen in the brain drain several industries in the country have been facing for extended periods, as well as the minimum wage limit of RM1,500 imposed in May last year, whose implementation has in turn been extended to July 1, 2023 for companies with five employees or less.
