Sime Darby appoints former Foreign Ministry sec-gen as director

KUALA LUMPUR: Sime Darby Bhd has appointed Tan Sri Muhammad Shahrul Ikram Yaakob as an independent and non-executive director.

Shahrul, 61, was the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from January 2019 to May 2022, Sime Darby said in a Bursa filing.

He was the permanent representative of Malaysia to the United Nations, New York, US in 2017. He has held many senior positions in Foreign Affairs Ministry since he started his career in 1988, including as Ambassador to Qatar from 2007 to 2010 and Austria from 2010 to 2013.

Shahrul holds a B. Sc. (Hons.) (Ecology) from the University of Malaya. He has a Diploma in Public Administration from the National Institute of Public Administration. He is also an alumnus of the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Programme.
