Bursa Malaysia registers RM649mil in net foreign inflow


KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia recorded net foreign inflow for a fifth straight week to the tune of RM649mil despite the prevailing weak investor sentiment in regional markets.

According to MIDF Research data, Malaysia and Thailand were the only two Asian markets under the broker's coverage that recorded net foreign inflows in the week ended March 11, 2022.

"Foreigners continued to be net buyers on every day of the week since a month ago on Feb 7, i.e. for 25 consecutive days uninterrupted.," said MIDF in a report.

The research firm however noted that the net buying by foreign investors was lower compared to RM1.08bil recorded in the week before.

Retail investors were also net buyers on the market to the tune of RM247.4mil after having been net buyers for everyday of the week except for Friday.

Meanwhile, local institutions remained net sellers with RM896.5mil net sold over the week, maintaining a consistent net outflow since Feb 4.

In terms of participation, retail investors, local institutions and foreign investors recorded weekly decreases of 8.09%, 2.09% and 14.38% in average daily traded value respectively.
