Maxvue aims to strengthen presence in African region

SEREMBAN: Contact lenses producer, Maxvue Vision Sdn Bhd, aims to strengthen its presence in Africa this year, while continuing to improve brand positioning in the local market.

Chief Executive Officer K. Selvam said although Maxvue was a 100 per cent local company, it found its products more readily received in European countries, with about 80 per cent of  revenue derived from exports.

“For Africa, it seems the region, with about a third of the world's population, is opening up to trade opportunities and we want to grab it. We currently export our products to African countries like Madagascar, Nigeria and South Africa.

“We plan to appoint distributors for that specific market and bring our new range of contact lens, Flash, which is affordable for the African market,” he told Bernama in a recent interview.

Selvam said the company was founded in 2004 and its business was more focused on capturing the international market, while the local segment is handled by distributors.

“This year we want to focus on end users and are putting all the necessary capabilities in place, such as a new team, systems and resources to handle local distribution, and have also allocated RM1 million for branding and marketing purposes.

“We hope to capture a 25 per cent local market share by year-end and want Malaysians to know the value of this brand,” he added.

He also said the company aims to rake in overall sales of RM24 million in 2019 compared to RM20 million last year.

Maxvue, with factories in Seremban and Sungai Buloh, currently exports its products to more than 60 countries, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, Egypt, France, Germany, Mauritius, Italy and Spain.

It has obtained approvals from medical device regulators around the world, such as the European CE mark, Australian TGA, Singapore HSA, Health Canada and the Russian Ministry of Health.

Other than Flash, Maxvue produces contact lenses under the ColourVUE and Phantasee brands. It is also the only company producing coloured contact lenses for astigmatism.

Under the ColourVUE range of products, the Glow and Crazy Lens series are a big hit during Halloween, and the company also supplies its coloured lenses to not only the local movie industry, but also to the Tamil and French sectors.

Maxvue has also developed a mobile app, ColourVUE Mirror App, the first contact lens application for customers to choose the right product for any occasion.

To create awareness of the brand, Maxvue will continue to participate in eyewear exhibitions globally this year, such as in Milan, Dubai and France. - Bernama
