Sunway Penang Medical Centre set for completion by Q4 2020

BUTTERWORTH: The Sunway Group expects to complete phase one of the Sunway Medical Centre project in Seberang Jaya here by the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2020.

Construction of the project with a gross development value (GDV) of RM300mil started yesterday. The 180-bed hospital will also have a six-bed intensive care unit.

Phase two, for the expansion of the hospital, will increase its bed capacity to 350 and add RM100mil to the total GDV.

Sunway Group founder and chairman Tan Sri Dr Jeffrey Cheah said during the ground-breaking ceremony that over 40 healthcare and hospitality professionals have also enquired about working at the Sunway Medical Centre at Sunway Velocity, Kuala Lumpur, which is still under construction and expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2019.

Meanwhile, Sunway group healthcare services managing director Lau Beng Long foresees Sunway medical centres attracting Malaysian medical specialists working in foreign countries to return home.
