Khalid said to have resigned as Prasarana chairman

PETALING JAYA: Prasarana Malaysia Bhd chairman Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar is said to have quit his post at the public transportation company.

Prasarana has been under the spotlight recently after Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng blamed the company’s poor management for the massive cost increase of the ongoing light rail transit line 3 (LRT3) project.

Sources said that Khalid, 61, tendered his resignation on Monday. The former inspector-general of police was made chairman in September last year following his retirement from the police force.

With his resignation, Khalid joins a growing list of high-profile resignations following Pakatan Harapan’s stunning election win in May.

Former minister Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar left as chairman of Permodalan Nasional Bhd in late June and was succeeded by former Bank Negara governor Tan Sri Zeti Akhtar Aziz.

Zeti’s successor at Bank Negara, Tan Sri Muhammad Ibrahim, resigned in June and was replaced by Datuk Nor Shamsiah Mohd Yunus.

Before that, in May, Umno member of parliament for Baling, Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, resigned from Lembaga Tabung Haji.

Khalid’s departure comes as the government wraps up its investigation into the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal.

Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, immediately after his election victory, had said that Khalid and former attorney-general Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali are among individuals who would be investigated for their roles in the 1MDB probe.

Khalid, in May, had confirmed that he was banned from travelling overseas by the government and said he would cooperate with any investigation.
