KUALA LUMPUR: Prasarana Malaysia Bhd will allocate 20% of its investment over the next five years, projected to be worth RM3.5bil, for green initiative in line with the Government Green Procurement (GGP) target.
Its president/group chief executive officer Datuk Seri Azmi Abdul Aziz said the effort also aligned Prasarana’s strategy and operations to back the National Green Agenda of cutting carbon emission by 45 per cent by 2030.
The national public transport infrastructure company today signed a five-year collaboration agreement with Malaysian Green Technology Corp (GreenTech Malaysia) to spearhead the development of public transport and the advancement of green technology in the country.
The areas of collaboration include the development of sustainable blueprint for Prasarana, green procurement and sustainable supply chain, and implementation of green initiatives including carbon emission measurement and verification.
Azmi and GreentTech Malaysia chief executive officer Dr Mohd Azman Zainul Abidin signed the agreement at the 8th International Greentech and Eco Products Exhibition and Conference (IGEM 2017) in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.
“We look forward to working with GreenTech Malaysia to make Prasarana as the success story of a company implementing green technology in its business ecosystem,” Azmi said to reporters on the sidelines of the signing ceremony.
Meanwhile, Mohd Azman said the strategic collaboration was crucial as the country moved towards a green economy.
“As the largest and leading public transport provider in Malaysia, Prasarana plays a significant role in promoting green technology and sustainability in the public transport infrastructure and services,” he said. - Bernama
