TM names Shazalli as new MD and group CEO

KUALA LUMPUR: Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) has appointed Datuk Seri Mohammed Shazalli Ramly as its new managing director and group chief executive officer (CEO) with effect from May 1.

In a statement on Tuesday, the telecommunications company said the appointment followed the retirement of Tan Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa, 56, as group CEO with effect from April 30.

Shazalli, 55, is currently the regional CEO for Axiata Group Bhd’s South-East Asia operations. Prior to that, he was the CEO and director of Celcom Axiata Bhd from Sept 1, 2005, until Aug 31, 2016.

TM also announced that its group chief financial officer (GCFO) Datuk Bazlan Osman, 53, would take over as deputy group CEO effective April 1 in addition to his current role as executive director.

Bazlan also remains as an appointed director of TM’s special shareholder, the Minister of Finance.

Current financial controller, Nor Fadhilah Mohd Ali, will cover the duties of the GCFO with effect from April 1 until the nomination and appointment of a new GCFO.

TM chairman Tan Sri Sulaiman Mahbob called the retiring Zamzamzairani “a true TM career man” and “a transformative leader” whose passion for TM inspired a sense of belonging and purpose among its employees, or Warga TM.

Zamzamzairani has more than 30 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, starting at TM where he served for 13 years before assuming key positions in several multinationals.

In 2005, he returned to TM as senior vice president (group strategy and technology) and was promoted to CEO (Malaysia business) before being appointed to his current office.

“Tan Sri Zam is a consummate TM leader who will be remembered by everyone across the TM group as a leader of great integrity, passion, charisma and intellect,” Sulaiman said.

On Shazalli’s and Bazlan’s appointments, Sulaiman said: “We are indeed excited with these appointments as it marks new era of leadership for TM as Malaysia’s Convergence Champion. Datuk Seri Shazalli brings with him the energy, drive and industry know-how to build on the strong foundation established by Tan Sri Zam.

“Together with Datuk Bazlan as his deputy, this dynamic duo makes for a formidable team.”
