Jotun Paints invests RM15mil in new factory in Nilai

JOTUN-GLOBAL COLOUR TRENDS 2017

KUALA LUMPUR: Jotun Paints (M) Sdn Bhd has invested RM15mil to build a new powder coating factory in Nilai, Negri Sembilan, which is slated to be ready by the end of the first quarter of 2017.

“We are building a new state-of-the-art powder coating factory, which has new technologies to meet the growing market demand, and we will close the existing one in Shah Alam, Selangor.

“Jotun has a desire to grow in the decorative business as we aim to grow at double-digit, over 10% annually and that will take us forward,” its Malaysia and Singapore managing director Eric Mallace told reporters at launch of Jotun Majestic Design and Jotun Global Colour Trends 2017 in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday.

Mallace said the company’s strategy moving forward was to intensify its decorative segment and to focus on premier segments.

“Our vision is to build a complete facility in Shah Alam, upgrade the research and development centre and consolidate all administrative type functions there and make Nilai as our specialised site for manufacturing,” he said.

Currently, Jotun has three factories in Malaysia -- a powder coating factory and decorative coating factory in Shah Alam and a coating factory for protective and marine segments in Nilai.

Mallace said Jotun’s main four segments are decorative products, protective coatings, marine coatings and powder coatings.

“In Malaysia, we are involved in all four segments. Worldwide, we are number one in marine and protective segments, number two in powder coatings and third in decorative products,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Jotun Majestic Design paint features three natural sceneries, namely Majestic Design Pearl -- inspired by morning mist; Majestic Design Prestige -- inspired by sunset clouds in the horizon and Majestic Design Diamond -- featuring myriads of diamonds and stars in the night sky.

The Jotun Group is based in Sandefjord, Norway, and has 63 companies and 37 production facilities across all continents with over 9,800 employees. - Bernama
