GEORGE TOWN: Wendy's Malaysia, part of the world's largest burger chain, plans to invest RM6 million in the next eight months to open six more outlets in Malaysia.
The local chain, which is operated by Berjaya Group unit Wen Berjaya Sdn Bhd, opened its first outlet outside the Klang Valley in Gurney Drive, Penang.
Managing Director Sydney Quays said apart from the Wendy's outlet in Gurney Drive, the group also planned to open two more outlets in Penang.
He said the group opened its first outlet in Sunway Piramid, Selangor, in 2008.
It now has nine outlets in the Klang Valley with two of them offering delivery services, he said.
"Each outlet will cost around RM1 million and we plan to open another six over the next eight months in Malaysia, starting with two more outlets in Penang in Batu Kawan and Juru," he told reporters after the opening of Wendy's in Sunrise Tower in George Town on Friday.
He said the next Wendy's outlet in Penang will be located in the Design Village Penang in Batu Kawan, which is set to be opened by the end of this month
The third outlet in the state will be opened in January 2017 in Juru.
"The other four Wendy's outlets will be in the Klang Valley and east Malaysia in order to expand the brand to all cities in Malaysia," he said.
Quays said despite the challenging market environment the group will continue to expand its business based on public response and demand for Wendy's burgers.
"This is a milestone for us as we finally make our mark in Penang and good demand for Wendy's burgers will be the prime factor for the group to continue to expand," he said.
He said the two-storey Wendy's Penang has a seating capacity of 80 at one time and will operate from 8am to 2am.
"In line with providing jobs for the local community, this outlet is solely manned by Penangites who have been trained to maintain the quality and freshness of our food," he said. - Bernama
