Malindo to reinstate direct KL-Sibu flights


In a joint statement, the companies said the collaboration was to facilitate and give convenience to their customers who will now be able to check-in at the KL Ekspres Departure Hall.

MIRI: Malindo Air will reinstate the Kuala Lumpur-Sibu direct flights this year as part of its strategy to relook the Sarawak market.

Chief commercial officer Datuk Bernard Francis said the Kuala Lumpur-Sibu route was discontinued for commercial reasons.

"We will look into other routes in Sarawak like Bintulu if it is commercially viable," he told reporters upon touching down at Miri Airport on Friday.

Malindo resumed its Kuala Lumpur-Miri direct flight beginning on Friday.

State Assistant Minister for Tourism Datuk Lee Kim Shin was at the airport to welcome the passengers.

Fares start from RM79 for economy class and RM669 for business class one-way all-inclusive.

Malindo also offers Kuala Lumpur-Kuching direct flights four times daily.

Lee urged Malindo to introduce international direct flights, with Miri Airport as its hub.

"Maybe Malindo Air can consider the possibility of direct flights from Miri Airport to Shengzhen, China," he said, noting that Shengzhen is strategically located in China, connecting major cities such as Beijing and Hong Kong.

At the moment, he said, the only international flights available at Miri Airport are Miri-Singapore.

Malindo should also increase flight frequency from Kuala Lumpur to Sarawak by introducing connecting flights, he added. - Bernama
