Genting Hong Kong acquires Crystal Cruises for RM2bil

PETALING JAYA: Genting Hong Kong (GHK), a cruise-line and resorts operator, has acquired luxury cruise line, Crystal Cruises.

In conjunction with its silver jubilee, GHK, the major shareholder of Norwegian Cruise Line, said that it had planned for six new vessels over the next three years.

GHK chairman Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay and Crystal’s president and chief executive officer Edie Rodriquez said GHK’s investment was to maintain Crystal’s award winning reputation.

“Our intention is to make Crystal Cruises the core of what will become the world’s premier luxury hospitality and lifestyle brand portfolio for years to come,” said Lim.

It was said that GHK had bought Crystal Cruises for US$550mil (RM2bil) cash.

Meanwhile, GHK said it had also signed a letter of intent with Lloyd Werft in Germany to build three new “Crystal Exclusive Class” cruise ships with the first of these polar ice class vessels expected for delivery in late 2018.
