JOHOR BAHRU: Puncak Semangat Sdn Bhd, an associate company of the AlBukhary Group, is set to tap the growing data market in Malaysia as well as the region with the setting up of a RM180 million data centre in Senai.
Puncak Semangat Chairman Syed Azmin Syed Nor said the first phase of the data centre, involving a land area of 2,500 square feet, had already been completed and had started operation in December last year."The second phase of the data centre is expected to be completed and fully operational in 2017, with an additional RM150 million investment within the next three years," he told reporters after the launching ceremony of the Synergycloud Data Centre here, today.
Currently, the company services 45 small and big clients from various sectors such as education, plantation as well as industrial automotive.
Syed Azmin said Puncak Semangat was also confident of capturing a 20 per cent market share, making it the market leader in Malaysia, driven by increasing demand for secured cloud computing facilities within the region.
Recently, it was reported that the data industry market in Malaysia is expected to grow to RM2 billion by 2020 from RM300 million in 2010, driven by the growing demand for data outsourcing globally.
"With the availability of high end data centre which offers cutting edge support services, Johor will be able to reap the benefits from the endless direct foreign investments," he added.
Apart from that, there was also a need for the small and medium enterprises to choose cloud data management system to help enhance their business while allowing them to focus on innovation and growth in scalable and affordable way, he added.
The Senai Data Centre will be the fourth Puncak Semangat integrated data centre after data centres in Glenmarie, iCity and Cyberjaya.-Bernama
