NKVE-Setia Alam Link

THE NKVE-Setia Alam Link is a 7.5km toll-free linkage between the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) and the Setia Alam township.

It starts at Km 3.3 of the NKVE, traverses Setia Alam and Setia Eco Park and exits at Km 7.0 of Jalan Meru.

It has four interchanges – Setia Alam, Setia Timur, Setia Barat and Jalan Meru.

It is presently a two-lane dual carriageway with reserves to be upgraded to a three-lane dual carriageway in future. Total cost of construction is about RM150mil.

This does not include the land acquisition cost, soil investigation and survey cost, design and supervision fees and also operations and maintenance costs or contribution to the NKVE concessionaire Plus Expressway Bhd. Works commenced in June 2003 and was completed last month. Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu will officiate at the road opening on Wednesday at 5pm. The public will be able to use the link from 9pm onwards on that day.

THE safety and convenience for the township residents and the general public were among SP Setia Bhd’s main priorities during the design of the link road.

The Setia Alam and Jalan Meru interchanges were designed as graded interchanges without traffic lights to allow smooth flow in all directions.

Aesthetics were also considered in the adoption of the slim-looking segmental box girder bridge, instead of the less appealing bulky beam and slab bridge.

The segmental box girder designs also do away with the need for a central median pier that is obstructing view. The segmental box girder construction offers the least disruption to road users during installation.

Because of the above reasons, the company chose to adopt the segmental box girder design even though it was more expensive compared with the normal beam and slab design option.

Space is allowed for the construction of a third tier bridge in future, should the need arise.

The two interchanges within the Setia Alam township (Setia Timur & Setia Barat interchanges) were constructed upfront for the convenience of the residents since the first batch of house buyers were handed possession of their houses in April.
