Poland welcomes Ukrainian take over of ailing FSO auto company


WARSAW, Poland: Poland's treasury ministry on Friday welcomed a bid by Ukraine's AwtoZAZ automaker to take over the FSO Motor Polska factory which has been ailing since Daewoo abandoned it in 2003. 

A deal giving the Ukrainians a 19.9 percent stake in FSO and full voting control at shareholders' meetings was signed Thursday.The move is aimed at getting FSO -- which owns the largest automobile plant in Warsaw _ back on its feet and avoiding vast layoffs, the ministry said.
