Smooth changeover at Genting

THE baton of leadership at Genting Group has been passed from father to son.

Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong, one of Malaysia’s most enduring and illustrious entrepreneurs, has decided to call it a day at the age of 86. His second son, Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, assumes the chairmanship of the Genting Group, as well as the president and CEO posts.

Tan Sri senior has three daughters and three sons – in that order.

It has been a long apprenticeship for Tan Sri junior, or KT to his friends.

But the result is a seamless transition of control. In KT, 52, Genting has found a worthy successor to its founder.

Genting insiders say KT has inherited many attributes of the grand old man, including a hands-on approach to the business, a low profile in the corporate world and the long hours he puts into his work.

KT graduated with a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from London University in 1975, and joined Genting in 1976.

He is also instrumental to the growth of Star Cruises, currently the third largest cruise line in the world.

StarBiz is delighted that the new chief at Genting agreed to take time off after officially taking over from his father to answer questions posed to him in our CEO OUTLOOK series. – WONG SULONG
