Two fires in Seoul’s Gangnam district leave 19 injured

SEOUL: Two buildings caught fire in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, in southern Seoul, on Tuesday, leaving two people seriously injured and 17 others with minor injuries.

Officials at the Gangnam Fire Station said a fire broke out on the third floor of one of the buildings at around 11.54am. One person suffered cardiac arrest and another was seriously injured, while 10 others sustained minor injuries, including smoke inhalation.

Another 60 people in the building evacuated on their own.

A separate fire broke out on the fourth floor of another building in the district just minutes later, at around 12.01pm. The second fire injured eight people, none of whom appeared to have suffered serious injuries.

Fire authorities said the two fires appeared to be unrelated.

Local fire authorities launched a Level 1 response, deploying 115 personnel and 56 pieces of equipment to extinguish the fires. They will investigate the causes once the fires have been put out.  - Korea Herald/ANN
