Top Laos officials to address workplace gender discrimination, violence in special meeting

VIENTIANE (Xinhua): Lao officials gathered to discuss strengthening enterprise-level policies and practices to address gender-based discrimination, violence, and harassment, and to improve workplace grievance mechanisms.

According to the Lao Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare on Thursday, a two-day seminar was held in Lao capital Vientiane from Tuesday to Wednesday to discuss measures to address workplace discrimination, violence, and harassment.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Director General of the ministry's Labor Management Department, Oudone Maniboun, emphasized that a safe, equitable, and fair working environment is essential to protecting workers' rights and legitimate interests.

He noted that preventing workplace discrimination, violence, and harassment is not only a legal obligation and a requirement under international labor standards but also helps improve productivity and promote sustainable enterprise development.

The seminar aimed to translate relevant policies, laws, and labor standards into practical measures for implementation at the enterprise level. It also provided a platform for participants to exchange experiences, discuss preventive and remedial measures, and strengthen transparent, reliable, and fair mechanisms for receiving and addressing workplace grievances.

Representatives from government agencies, the business sector, and international organizations attended the seminar, reaffirming their shared commitment to promoting safe, inclusive, and non-discriminatory workplaces across the country. - Xinhua
