Mindanao politician allegedly financed flight linked to Laos drug seizure, says PDEA

Police seize 521 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine at Luang Prabang International Airport and detain 13 people in connection with the case. The private jet has also been seized for investigation.

MANILA: A politician from Mindanao allegedly financed the chartered flight linked to the 521-kilogram shabu seizure in Laos, according to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

“We have identified the financier behind this drug operation. This politician is based in the South, in Mindanao,” PDEA spokesperson Atty Joseph Frederick Calulut told reporters in an interview on Thursday.

Calulut did not identify the politician but said the individual was opposed to the current administration.

He also did not disclose the politician’s position, saying the investigation and case-building were ongoing. - Inquirer/ANN
