Thailand's teen sensation Nene Royal to rock IMF-World Bank reception

BANGKOK: Nene Royal (pic), the 16-year-old Thai singer and guitarist who won America’s Got Talent 2026, is scheduled to perform for more than 400 global financial leaders at Government House in Bangkok on Wednesday (Oct 14) evening.

The reception at the Santi Maitri Building is being held for participants in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Group Annual Meetings, with finance ministers and central bank governors among the expected guests.

Nene, whose real name is Rattikarn Amloy, is appearing as a special guest of the Thai government. She had returned from Singapore, where she joined US heavy metal band Avenged Sevenfold on stage, ahead of the reception.

Nene’s planned solo set combines modern rock with Thai musical influences, with singing and guitar playing at the centre of the show.

The songs identified for Nene’s set are “Zombie”, the breakthrough number that helped bring her international attention, and “Som San”, the Thai rock hit associated with Sek Loso. The arrangement of “Som San” is a contemporary reworking of the song.

Nene’s performance of “Zombie” had attracted hundreds of millions of views across social media.

The Government House reception programme also includes performances by National Artists and music from the Sorkrao Symphony Orchestra, bringing cultural heritage and orchestral music into the evening’s entertainment.

The reception is organised under the theme “Thailand Welcome The World”. The government’s cultural showcase combines contemporary Thai music with traditional artistic expression to present the country’s creativity to international delegates.

Nene’s appearance places young Thai talent at the centre of the reception. It is a combination of a teenage rock performer, National Artists and a symphony orchestra as an effort to project both Thailand’s modern identity and its cultural roots, while drawing attention to the creative economy.

Live coverage of the annual meetings at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center is being promoted through the AM2026 Thailand social media channels.

The channels listed for meeting coverage are AM2026 Thailand on Facebook, AM2026thailand on YouTube and AM2026Thailand on TikTok. - The Nation/ANN
