Indonesia's Bali struggling with fuel shortages

JAKARTA: (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) Fuel shortages have hit parts of Bali, prompting long lines to form at the Indonesian holiday island's few operating gas stations, a RIA Novosti correspondent reported on Tuesday (Oct 13).

The disruptions have particularly affected areas popular with tourists, such as Uluwatu and Ubud.

The island's Russian-language community reports a lack of gasoline at major gas stations and among private vendors, as well as the closure of smaller fuel outlets.

"I waited in a huge line, only to be told in the end that I'd be better off going to another station. And there, after waiting in an equally long line, I was sent all the way to the north of the island," Sergey, a Russian national, told RIA Novosti.

In Kerobokan, scooter riders were queuing late into Monday night. Footage posted online shows numerous motorcyclists waiting to refuel.

Motorists in the Badung regency faced waits of over an hour on Monday, with lines spilling onto the roads and disrupting traffic, the Detik Bali news outlet reported.

In the Jembrana regency, 14 service stations were affected by the fuel shortage, forcing residents to push their stalled motorcycles. - Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti
