Tanker damaged by 'unidentified' projectile in the Strait of Hormuz, says UK Maritime Agency

ISTANBUL (Bernama-Anadolu): A tanker sustained damage after being struck by an "unidentified” projectile while transiting outbound through the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday, Anadolu Ajansi reported, citing a UK maritime agency.

The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said in a notice dated Oct 11 that the vessel's company security officer reported a projectile striking the tanker's port side.

All crew members were reported safe, and no environmental impact had been reported at the time of the incident, according to the agency.

The notice said the incident occurred at 1200GMT but did not identify the tanker, its flag or its operator.

Authorities were investigating the incident, UKMTO said.

The agency advised vessels transiting the area to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity to the maritime monitoring organisation.
