Post-flood rehabilitation top priority for Cambodia: Hun Manet

PHNOM PENH: Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet (pic) on Thursday (Oct 8) directed authorities to prioritise post-flood recovery efforts, focusing on repairing damaged infrastructure and helping farmers replant destroyed rice paddies.

During a graduation ceremony at the University of Management and Economics in northwestern Battambang province, which aired live on state-run TVK, Hun Manet said the country had faced massive seasonal floods.

"In this post-flood stage, our priority is to rehabilitate infrastructure like roads and help farmers replant their damaged rice paddies," he said.

According to the National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM), floods struck 10 Cambodian provinces last month, affecting nearly 45,000 families and forcing almost 3,700 families to evacuate.

The rising waters also damaged 40,384 homes and 49,925 hectares of rice paddies. - Xinhua
