Myanmar charges two passport brokers

YANGON: Individuals working as passport brokers near the Myanmar Passport Issuing Office in Yangon have been arrested and charged, according to reports.

On Sept 5, a joint team including members of the Special Branch was conducting measures to eliminate passport brokerage activities and arrested a man identified as Nyein Chan Aung for acting as a broker by charging passport applicants fees exceeding the prescribed amount.

In addition, Daw Aye Aye Myint, who was assisting passport applicants in submitting applications while charging them additional fees, was also arrested. The two individuals have been charged under Section 61(a) of the Myanmar Police Force Law at Bahan Township Police Station, according to reports.

Similarly, legal action will also be taken against Daw Than Than Kyi and Daw Thandar Oo, who have allegedly been charging passport applicants fees exceeding the prescribed amount and operating as brokers. - Eleven Media/ANN
