RSC has big plans for darts: Besides its club invitational, plans for an open tournament are on the cards in November

THE Royal Selangor Club is planning an open darts tournament for Malaysian players in November, as it looks to grow the sport beyond its annual interclub invitational.

The proposed event follows the 14th Royal Selangor Club Interclub Invitational Darts Tournament, scheduled for Oct 10–11 at the club’s historic Dataran Merdeka clubhouse. The two-day competition will bring together 32 teams from 20 clubs and institutions, including the Royal Lake Club, Royal Port Dickson Yacht Club and the Malaysian Bar.

The tournament carries added significance this year, marking the club’s lease extension at Dataran Merdeka until 2086.

Organisers say the agreement helps secure the heritage venue for sport and community life for decades to come. Corporate sponsors and donations from club members fund the competition's RM6,100 prize pool.

The RSC’s team will be led by former national champions Victor Poulose and Connie Loo. They will be joined by rising player S S Ruben, who recently won the Altis Unseeded Challenge Final Series.

“We are proud to welcome the finest darts talent from across the country to our historic grounds,” said RSC Sports Chairman Jimi Low. “This 14th edition is doubly special as we showcase elite sportsmanship and celebrate securing our Dataran Merdeka home until 2086.”

Tournament play begins on the morning of Oct 10, with the finals scheduled for Oct 11.

RSC Darts Convenor Alwin Rajasurya said the club intends to encourage more young people to take up the game and help raise the standard of Malaysian darts.

“One major move is to introduce an open tournament for darters in the country,” he said. “We intend to hold that bigger-scale competition at the end of November.”

Founded in 1884, the Royal Selangor Club is one of Malaysia’s oldest social and sporting institutions and has produced many national athletes for the country.
