Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) was established in 1949 during the early years of Indonesia’s independence. It was formed through the merger of several higher education institutions and was named after Mahapatih Gadjah Mada, a historical figure known for uniting the archipelago. UGM began with six faculties and later developed its main campus in Bulaksumur, Yogyakarta. Today, UGM has 18 faculties, one Graduate School, and one Vocational School, offering a wide range of academic programmes.
