PHNOM PENH: Cambodia's Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology issued a weather warning on Tuesday (Oct 6), advising travellers, particularly those using waterways, to exercise high vigilance from Oct 6 to 10 due to the peripheral impacts of three tropical storms.
According to a ministry notice, the nation is currently experiencing the outer bands of typhoons Nolo and Koguma, alongside tropical storm Surigae.
While Cambodia does not sit directly in the path of the three storms, their combined systems are expected to trigger increased rainfall and strong winds over the Mekong River Basin, coastal waters, and lowlands and highlands across the country.
"Coastal provinces, including Koh Kong, Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, and Kep, along with the Bokor mountain range, could experience thunderstorms, gusty winds, and rain covering up to 40 per cent of the area," the notice said.
Maritime conditions are also projected to deteriorate, with average sea wave heights ranging from 0.5 to 1.75 metres.
Meanwhile, rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds are forecast to cover up to 50 per cent of the plain region and 60 per cent of the plateau region.
"Based on this weather forecast, citizens are urged to remain highly vigilant against sudden downpours, lightning, and strong winds, especially those travelling by land or water," the ministry warned.
The ministry added that it will continue to monitor the weather patterns closely and provide timely updates if conditions change. - Xinhua
