JAKARTA: An earthquake of magnitude 5.9 struck the Sumbawa region of Indonesia on Sunday (Oct 4), the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) said.

Sumbawa is an island in the middle of the Lesser Sunda Islands in the West Nusa Tenggara province, with Lombok to the west, Flores to the east, and Sumba further to the south-east.

The quake was at a depth of 10 km, the GFZ added. - Reuters
