Daylight saving time begins in parts of Australia

CANBERRA: Daylight saving time began in parts of Australia on Sunday (Oct 4), with clocks moving forward by one hour, reported Xinhua.

At 2am local standard time, clocks were advanced to 3am in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT), New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia.

The change means residents in those states and territories will have an extra hour of daylight in the evening during the warmer months.

Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory do not observe daylight saving time, leaving mainland Australia across five time zones.

Daylight saving in the participating states and territories runs from the first Sunday in October to the first Sunday in April. The current period will end on April 4, 2027, when clocks will be turned back by one hour.
