'At your traditional best,' Miss Saree Malaysia returns this year in style

The Miss Saree Malaysia has returned after the event was missed last year. The inaugural Miss Saree Malaysia pageant was held on October 19, 2013. And this year, it is making a comeback after its absence and will be held on Oct 30 in the Klang Valley.

The organisers, Dark Dreamerzz Event Management, said they have two venues in mind and the final announcement will be made shortly after final negotiations have been sorted out.

Chief organising officer, Ruben Paranjothy, added this year's event will also be held in conjunction with the Deepavali celebrations that will fall on November 8.

Ruben was talking to the media during the launch celebration event held at the Sunway Square Mall on Wednesday (Sept 30).

"We aim to make it a real grand show this year. This is a cultural, fashion and heritage programme created to celebrate the timeless elegance of the saree while promoting cultural appreciation, confidence, identity and unity among Malaysians.

"The programme aims to provide a meaningful platform for women and young talents to showcase their confidence, creativity, personality and appreciation of traditional Indian attire," said Ruben.

"Through fashion presentations, cultural performances and heritage-based activities, Miss Saree Malaysia 2026 seeks to highlight the saree as an important symbol of tradition and cultural identity.

"The programme will be held in conjunction with the Deepavali 2026 celebrations, bringing together participants, cultural practitioners, designers, media representatives, community leaders and guests in a celebration of heritage and diversity," Ruben added.

The event was also graced by Batu Member of Parliament Prabakaran Parameswaran, who said in his speech that the tradition of Malaysian heritage, which includes all races, must always be upheld by all Malaysians.

“This is a special event that celebrates the Indian heritage, and I do hope that many will fully support the event,” he said.

Other top guests at the event also included top Malaysian radio deejay, former RAAGA presenter and event host Aanantha Rajaram, who added that having such events will always help push the traditional heritage of Indians in the country.

Also at the event, the invitees were also shown a poster cum soundtrack announcement of the new local Tamil movie 'Ghost Trigger', which is also directed by Ruben.

The saree event is also held in conjunction with the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign. Besides the Miss Saree Malaysia 2026 event, other shows that will be seen here are the * Traditional Saree & Fashion Showcase; * Cultural & Bharatha Natyam Performances; * Heritage and Cultural Activities; and * Deepavali 2026 Cultural Celebration.
