A 25-year-old man was arrested for allegedly throwing his two daughters off the balcony of his sixth-floor apartment in Gifu prefecture, Kyodo News reported.
The police had already been called to the site by the man’s wife, who made an emergency call late Friday night saying her husband was acting violently.
They were able to ready mats to cushion the fall of the two daughters, a four-year-old and a one-year-old. The children were both conscious when they were taken to hospital and are not believed to be in life-threatening conditions.
The father, Tomokazu Miura, a part-time worker, was arrested on the spot on suspicion of attempted murder.
According to the police, the suspect was living with his wife and two daughters.
The police urged Miura to come out after his wife made the emergency call. After he refused to comply, the police stormed into their apartment.
Miura is believed to have thrown his two daughters off the balcony at that moment. He has remained silent during questioning, the police said. — Bernama
