About 200 people from diverse cultural and community backgrounds came together at Tropicana Golf & Country Resort for the Moon of Compassion 2026 Mid-Autumn Festival, an evening that brought together cultural celebration, community connection and the spirit of giving.
Held under the theme “Sharing Light, Sharing Love”, Persatuan Penganut Dei Mou Ciu Gwong Gung (DMCGG) organised the event to take the traditional spirit of Mid-Autumn beyond the family table and create a space to celebrate shared values of gratitude, generosity and giving.
Speaking at the event, Damien Foo, Chairman of DMCGG, said the celebration reflected DMCGG’s belief that cultural traditions can serve as a bridge between people, creating opportunities to foster greater understanding, connection and a stronger sense of community.
“We have always firmly believed that the concept of ‘unity in diversity’ is our biggest strength as a multicultural nation, and today’s celebration demonstrates that when we share what we have, a celebration can become something much more meaningful,” said Damien.
Beyond the festivities, the event also provided an opportunity for DMCGG to highlight its ongoing charitable work in the wider community, including its Food Distribution Programme, which currently distributes more than 200 meals a day to vulnerable urban families and low-income individuals across the Klang Valley.
For DMCGG, the connection between cultural celebration and community care is rooted in the belief that the values behind traditional festivals can be shared regardless of a person’s cultural or religious background.
“You don't have to belong to a particular culture or faith to understand the meaning of reunion, gratitude and sharing, or to want to help another family. These are universal values and what ties it all together is compassion,” he added.
As DMCGG looks to build a more inclusive and connected community, it believes that engaging the next generation in volunteerism and community service from a young age is an important part of creating lasting social impact.
“Through this event, we also hope to encourage more young people to experience volunteerism as early as possible. Some of the most important lessons cannot be taught through academics alone. When you volunteer, you learn empathy, responsibility and what it means to contribute to the community,” said Damien.
Rooted in the values of Dei Mou (Mother Earth), which symbolise selfless service, nurturing care and harmony, DMCGG channels its work across six core social causes: poverty alleviation and hunger relief, women’s empowerment, mental health and wellness, education, environmental stewardship, and global humanitarian aid, guided by the principles “Inspired by Compassion, Driven by Service, Nurturing Humanity.”
