BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: A 49-year-old Bruneian man was sentenced to four months’ imprisonment for abetting another person to impersonate someone using another person’s passport.
According to the Immigration and National Registration Department (INRD), Azlan Awang Damit pleaded guilty to the offence under Section 12(1)(k) of the Passports Act, Chapter 146, which concerns abetting an offence under Section 12(1)(c) of the same Act.
The sentence took effect from the date he was remanded on Aug 17, 2026. The case was transferred from the Sungai Tujoh Immigration Control Post in Kuala Belait.
In a separate case, a 33-year-old Bangladeshi man, Md Arif, was sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment and three strokes of the cane for overstaying in Brunei Darussalam after his immigration pass expired. The sentence took effect on Sept 16, 2026.
Meanwhile, one person was detained during Operation Kakas 104/2026 in the Liang area of Belait District for allegedly working while holding a visit pass.
The INRD said the individual was among 10 people inspected during the operation, including eight foreign nationals, one Brunei permanent resident and one Brunei citizen.
The detainee was taken to the department’s Kuala Belait Law Enforcement Division for further investigation over an alleged offence under Regulation 9(4) of the Immigration Regulations, Chapter 17. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
