Chiba mudslide linked to Typhoon Dujuan leaves elderly woman dead

CHIBA: Part of a house in Mobara, Chiba Prefecture, was crushed by a mudslide which may have been caused by heavy rain from Typhoon Dujuan, the Chosei Area Fire Department said Monday.

Rescue efforts led to the discovery of a woman in her 80s in a state of cardiac arrest and later confirmed dead on Tuesday.

The fire department received an emergency call from a neighbour around 11:35 p.m. on Monday saying that the house in question had been damaged due to a mudslide.

Two of the three people believed to have lived in the house escaped safely, but the fire department was initially unable to confirm the whereabouts of the fourth, an elderly woman, prompting them, along with local police, to start searching for her.
