JAKARTA (Xinhua): A joint search and rescue team on Friday recovered three more bodies from a ship that capsized and sank in the Java Sea, bringing the death toll to nine on the sixth day of the search, the Indonesian Navy said.
Indonesian Navy spokesperson First Admiral Tunggul said naval divers entered the sunken vessel and found the bodies of two men and a woman.
Divers also recovered 210 items from inside and around the wreckage, which will be handed over to Indonesia's National Transportation Safety Committee for investigation, said Galih Nurna Putra, commander of the Indonesian Navy base in Banjarmasin.
The Virgo Transport 8 was carrying 243 people from Surabaya in East Java province to Banjarmasin when it capsized in bad weather early Sunday.
According to the latest official data, 108 people have been rescued, nine have been confirmed dead and 126 remain missing. -- Xinhua
